Q: What does it mean to be a volunteer firefighter?
A: For some, it's a way to give back to their community and a great way to meet friends. For others, it's a way into a paid job. It's responding day or night to any number of emergencies. It's the challenge of cutting apart a mangled car and gaining access to a burning home. It's seeing your fellow humans in their time of need and looking to you to help them through an event that will last forever in their memory.

Q: Will I have to pay for training, equipment, and tools?
A: Traditionally, the training, equipment, and tools that you will need to perform your job as a volunteer firefighter will be provided to you at no cost. All volunteers must complete a recruit academy, which will help prepare them for the job of volunteer firefighter.

Q: When does the fire academy begin, what is the schedule, and how long does it last?
A: The fire academy starts in January and runs through the end of May each year. Academy sessions are every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. (18:00-22:00 hrs). In addition to Wednesdays, you are required to attend 2-3 Saturday sessions per month. In addition, 2-3 Sunday sessions that also be required. The goal of the academy schedule is to make sure that you are given the proper amount of training without conflicting with your professional and family commitments.
